Garden Blog spring 2018
We had some new visitors to the bird feeders during the cold & snowy weather in March. First to be noticed was the arrival of a Redpoll - a first for our Milton Keynes garden. A week later we were lucky to have a Brambling stop by for a few days. This species has only been in the garden once before - many years ago. The number of bird species seen in the immediate vicinity of our house and garden has now increased by one to 60!
Our resident Bank Vole has a new neighbour - a Long Tailed Wood/Field mouse. It is amusing to observe them when they have a surprise encounter with each other - they both jump into the undergrowth or rock crevices. Sometimes the Bank Vole does get a bit bold and sees the mouse off from what he believes to be ‘his patch’.
The wet Spring has been good for the garden plants as everything is flourishing and the blossom on the trees is beautiful. In addition to the Large Red Damselfly pictured here, there have been several types of butterfly in the garden including Orange Tip Speckled Wood & Brimstone.
